How to Stay Happy

January is often said to be the Monday of the year and the worst month, and I can see why people say that. It follows the happiness of Christmas, and if you have nothing to look forward to, it can often leave you feeling down. Obviously it can happen at any time of the year, and to try to help you out,  I have put together a post with my best tips of keeping your spirits up. I'm no expert by any means, but here are my tips, which I hope you can find helpful.

Figure out what's making you sad
Sometimes your sadness may be down to a reason that you know, such as a breakup, but sometimes you just feel sad for what appears to be no reason. If you don't know what's wrong with you, it makes it 10 times harder to help yourself. Once you know what's bothering you, it is a lot easier to start to feel happier. Sometimes there is no reason behind it, and sometimes you won't know until afterwards. But, just spend a little bit of time thinking about what could be the reason behind your sadness.

Allow yourself to be sad
It isn't normal for a person to be happy 100% of the time, and even if other people appear that way, that isn't true. Everyone gets sad. It is important to know that it is normal, and allow yourself to feel sad for a short period of time.

Confide in someone 
It is always said that a problem shared is a problem halved, and although you may feel like you are burdening someone, the likelihood is that they are happy you've confided in them. Other people may also have a different outlook on an issue, which could help you out a lot seeing things from another persons point of view. Sometimes, you won't need advice. You might just want someone to vent to, and this can be very helpful.

Distract yourself
It is not easy to become happier, when you are just sat around thinking about it all day. One of the best ways to cheer yourself up is to get out of the house and distract yourself. You could meet up with your friends or family, go on a day out or even just watch a funny film.

Re-evaluate your situation
If it has been a long time and you are still feeling down, it may be time to re-evaluate your situation. This is obviously different for everyone, but it may be good to just think about what it really is that is making you sad, and whether or not you are taking the best approach to helping yourself.

Get help
It is obviously so important that, if you are really really sad for a lot of the time, you get help. You could either go to a doctor or a therapist, in order to help you. It could even just be confiding more deeply in a friend and telling them that you are worried.
